Part 1 — Before You Ride: Safety Requirements #

Essential Safety Warnings #

  • Read this manual carefully before using the EKXBIKE, and keep it in a safe place for future reference.
  • Retain the original packaging for repackaging in case of return or product replacement.
  • Follow the assembly instructions precisely and check that no screws are loose before riding.
  • Comply with national laws, regulations, and local traffic rules; bring all relevant documents when riding.
  • The vehicle is equipped with a safe-line insurance device that must not be changed or replaced without authorization.
  • Check all data on your purchase voucher when buying, and keep all vouchers after the purchase is complete.
  • Your first ride should take place in a controlled environment, away from cars, obstacles, and other cyclists.
  • Always wear a properly fitted helmet — the helmet must cover your forehead. Do not ride at night, and avoid riding in wet conditions. Children should ride only with adult supervision.

Pre-Ride Mechanical Safety Checklist #

  • Brakes: Front and rear brakes work properly; brake pads are not over-worn and are correctly positioned; control cables are lubricated and correctly adjusted; brake levers are lubricated and tightly secured.
  • Wheels & Tires: Tires inflated within the limit shown on the sidewall; tread intact with no bulges or excessive wear; rims run true; spokes tight; axle nuts tight, or quick-release levers correctly tensioned and closed.
  • Steering: Handlebar and stem correctly adjusted and tightened; handlebars aligned with the forks and direction of travel; headset locking mechanism properly adjusted; handlebar end extensions properly positioned.
  • Chain: Oiled, clean, and running smoothly — extra care in wet or dusty conditions.
  • Battery Pack: In good operating condition and kept fully charged.
  • Bearings: All bearings (headset, wheel, pedal, bottom bracket) lubricated, running freely, with no excess movement, grinding, or rattling.
  • Cranks & Pedals: Pedals securely tightened to the cranks; cranks securely tightened to the axle and not bent.
  • Derailleurs: Front and rear mechanisms adjusted and functioning properly.
  • Motor Drive Assembly & Throttle: All motor drive components correctly mounted and functioning properly.

Disc Brake Handling Warning #

  • Avoid touching the rotor (disc) with your fingers at any time — naturally oily fingers can contaminate the rotor and/or brake pads and diminish brake effectiveness.
  • Brake rotors get hot! Severe injury could result from contact with a hot rotor. Mind your legs as well as your hands.

Part 2 — Battery Care and Charging (60V 30Ah Li-Ion) #

Charging Protocol #

  • Fully charge the battery before first use — batteries should be fully charged immediately when received and immediately after each use.
  • Li-Ion recommended charge time: 4–6 hours. For a complete 100% charge, leave the battery on the charger for one full hour after the charger indicator light turns green.
  • Never charge batteries for longer than 24 hours.
  • Li-Ion batteries have no “memory” — partial discharge/charge cycles will not harm capacity or performance.
  • Do not charge the battery indoors. Always turn the power switch to OFF after each use — a five-minute sleep function conserves battery power after inactivity, but leaving the switch ON for long periods without charging may leave the batteries unable to hold a charge.
  • Be friendly to the environment: recycle old batteries at a local battery-recycling center — never throw them in the garbage.

Temperature and Storage #

  • The rated output capacity of a battery is measured at 77°F (25°C). Any variation in temperature alters performance and shortens expected life — high temperatures especially reduce overall battery life and runtime.
  • Batteries stored in cold areas (below 50°F / 10°C) will show reduced range.

Factors That Maximize E-Bike Range #

  • Rider Input: The more the rider pedals, the further the distance — continuous riding, rather than frequent stopping and starting, yields the greatest range.
  • Elevation Gain: The flatter the road, the further the distance traveled.
  • Weather: Cold weather can adversely affect battery capacity.
  • Wind: Tailwinds increase distance; headwinds decrease it.
  • Terrain: Smoother terrain (roadways vs. fire roads) extends distance.
  • Rider Weight: The lighter the rider, the less drain on the batteries.
  • Bicycle Maintenance: A properly maintained bicycle yields the greatest range possible.
  • Tire Pressure: Properly inflated tires have less rolling resistance and are easier to pedal.
  • Batteries: Properly charged and maintained batteries yield the greatest range.

Part 3 — Component Assembly #

Getting Started #

  1. Open the carton from the top and remove the bicycle; remove straps and protective wrapping.
  2. Inspect the bicycle and all accessories and parts for possible shortages.
  3. Lubricate the threads and all moving parts in the parts package prior to installation.
  4. Do not discard packing materials until assembly is complete.

Tools Required: hexagon screwdrivers 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm; Phillips head screwdriver; wrench; bicycle pump. When working on the bicycle, refer to the torque values chart — under- or over-tightened components may loosen or break, causing a fall.

Front Wheel — Quick Release Installation #

  1. Remove the tension adjusting nut and one of the small springs, then slide the quick release skewer through the hub. For disc brake models, insert the skewer starting on the side with the brake rotor; replace the spring and tension adjusting nut.
  2. If the bicycle has rim brakes, disengage them to increase the clearance between the tire and brake pads.
  3. Install the wheel into the dropouts, making sure the quick release lever is on the left side of the bicycle.
  4. Holding the lever in the OPEN position, tighten the tension adjusting nut finger-tight against the fork dropout, then swing the lever into the CLOSED position.

Warning: Riding with an improperly adjusted wheel quick release can allow the wheel to wobble or fall off the bicycle, which can cause serious injury or death. Before each ride, check that the wheel is securely clamped. Ask your dealer or a local bike shop to make sure you know how to install and remove your wheels safely.

Pedal Installation #

Look for the letters “R” (right) and “L” (left) stamped on each pedal spindle. Start threading each pedal by hand to avoid stripping the threads, then tighten with a 15 mm narrow open-ended wrench. The right-hand pedal attaches to the chainwheel-side crank arm with a right-hand (clockwise) thread; the left pedal attaches to the other crank arm with a left-hand (counter-clockwise) thread. Check the crank set for correct adjustment and tightness before riding — new cranks may become loose with initial use.

Part 4 — LCD Display, Throttle, and Controls #

The TX1's LCD screen displays speed, mileage, gear, headlight status, and PAS level, provides fault warnings, and supports function settings. Handlebar controls include the power switch, gear increase/reduction buttons, high/low speed control, P button, brake lever, horn, and accelerator.

TAG (Twist and Go) Operation #

  • Turn the main power switch on, then begin riding as you would any regular, non-motor-assisted bicycle.
  • After a few seconds the motor slowly activates and ramps up to 50% power; while the pedals are in motion, slowly twist the throttle towards you to activate full motor power.
  • The more you twist the throttle, the more motor power is applied to the wheels — once the throttle is twisted all the way, the motor accelerates you to its full speed of about 18–20 mph (28–32 km/h) in standard assist operation.

Part 5 — Fault Diagnostics (TX1) #

All error codes are uploaded from the controller to the instrument, except for communication errors, which the instrument reports on its own initiative; the instrument is only responsible for displaying them. The TX1 LCD indicates faults with dedicated warning icons:

Part 6 — Maintenance Schedule #

With proper care and maintenance, the EKXBIKE TX1 will provide ease of use and be fun to ride. Follow the manual's periodic lubrication and inspection intervals, and refer to the torque values chart for detailed torque requirements when working on the bicycle. Consult a qualified bicycle specialist if you have doubts or concerns about your experience or ability to properly assemble, repair, or maintain your bicycle.
